Worship at New Life Church has largely grown as a result of a revitalising experience
of God's Holy Spirit. This has dramatically affected the way we worship. In our services,
all are free to respond to God in whatever way seems appropriate: to stand up, sing,
or just remain focused and silent.....
Some of the ways we worship may be unfamiliar to you so below we explain the meaning behind our practices:
Why do we clap?
Clapping is, according to the Bible, is a valid way of expressing
worship to our Great God and King. Psalm 47: 1 says “Clap your hands all you people:
shout to God with the voice of triumph.” We fid great joy in worshipping God and
clapping seems a natural way of expressing our joy to Him.
Why do we lift our hands?
In both the Old and New Testaments, lifting up one’s hands
is a means of worshipping God. “Raise your hands in prayer -
What is the strange language we sometimes use in our services?
Its called ‘speaking in tongues’. The New Testament describes various supernatural
gifts given by the Holy Spirit to build up and strengthen God’s people. These are
quite distinct from natural human gifts or talents but are given by God regardless
of a person’s natural intellect or ability. “The one who speaks in strange tongues
does not speak to others but to God, because no-
Why do we ‘sing in the Spirit’?
This refers to singing spontaneously in tongues when the Holy Spirit inspires both
words and melody. It is heartfelt praise and worship orchestrated by God’s Spirit.
“ ...spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians
5: 9).
Why do we dance during worship?
Sometimes our joy is so great we can’t keep still and so express our worship by dancing in the Spirit. The Bible says, “Praise Him with timbrel and dance” (Psalm 150:4) and King David “danced for joy before the Lord” (2 Samuel 6:14).
Our musicians...
We are privileged to have a number of musicians who form our various
worship ‘teams’ each Sunday. All come with a varied range of musical gifting and
musical background using voices and a variety of musical instruments, to lead and
encourage worship at all of our Sunday Services. Also Ignite! our youth group have
their own band who regularly lead our worship.
We believe that this is not only a commitment but a privilege. Our worship leaders encourage the people gathered to be open before God that we may hear from Him and allow Him to move amongst us.
A number of our singers and musicians are professionally trained and bring both their musical gifting and experience to lead people into praise and worship of God.
